Change Management with Syntegration®

Syntegration® - a cybernetic communication method of MALIK Management Zentrum St. Gallen, applied by Effective Management

«Don’t fight forces – use them.» (R. Buckminster Fuller)

The work of three months in three days

A Syntegration combines the power and dynamics of small teams with the effectiveness and intelligence of large groups. A three-dimensional communication structure allows for the optimal and fastest possible distribution of knowledge amongst the key people of an organisation and thus for finding the best possible solution for a complex problem.

By intensively working together in a Syntegration, participants develop a common understanding for the key issues in regard to the problem addressed. Furthermore they develop a robust consensus, team spirit and a strong commitment for implementing the actions, jointly developed by the group. A Syntegration works like a time-compressing machine: maximum communication in the smallest possible time frame.

  • One-time 3.5 days event,
  • resulting in a well documented action plan ready for implementation.
  • Simultaneous inclusion of all key people needed for solution finding and implementation.
  • Incorporation of all relevant variables and for the utilisation of the existing knowledge;
  • Transdisciplinary handling of the organisational problems with direct communication between all people involved;
  • Strong will for implementation by actively utilising diverging opinions and by integrating all different opinions from the very beginning.

Using the existing but dispersed knowledge

Knowledge is only being generated in the brains of people, nowhere else. This means, that effective management of knowledge integrates people, not computers. We are living in a time of ever increasing complexity within our organizations and in their respective environment. Therefore the exchange of knowledge and a decision making process that involves all relevant people becomes a vital necessity in order to arrive at the right solutions for the most pressing problems and challenges.

As the key people of an organization are expensive and usually overloaded with work, this decision making process needs to happen in the shortest possible period of time. Not only time is a critical factor, but also using the full available potential and energies of people and being mostly self-coordinated and result oriented. Syntegration is the method to most effectively integrate the knowledge of people within large groups.

Multifaceted range of application

The application range of Syntegration is multifaceted, varying from developing holistic strategies with our clients, managing reorientation processes, efficiently planning large projects, mastering mergers, permanently reducing costs all the way to solving conflicts. The enormous effectiveness of the Syntegration has been demonstrated in a large number of implementations (over 400 worldwide) with organisations of any type and size.

The working structure

The Icosahedron, a three-dimensional working structure and the platform for a Syntegration allows for the optimal and fastest possible distribution of knowledge amongst the participants.

30 persons adopt 3 different roles while working on 12 topics

Success Stories

In 3,5 days 60 million € cost cutting identified; implementation on plan

Automotive Supplier (February 2009)
3,6 million € (10% of yearly budget) cost cutting, realized by end of March 2009

Automotive Supplier (January 2009)
40% reduction of capital expenditure from 47 to 28 million €, without reducing important activities; realized in only 2 weeks!

References in South Africa

Mondi Group South Africa, 2007 -- Feedback of participants:

  • “It was interesting for me to see the common view – not on every topic – but it seems that there is a common understanding of the future.”
  • “I really enjoyed the healthy debate. Let’s go for the implementation.”
  • Sharing of information during the last two days was great. I believe that this approach will last beyond this workshop, because there is a lot of commitment from the management.”
  • “What I enjoyed most was to see that energy and awareness developed over the days.”
  • “Every single action item has been created by every single person in this room. Usually action plans are elaborated by a small group of people, and than it’s hard to implement it.”
  • “Fantastic process: 25 individuals, hundreds of ideas drilled down to a very good list of actions, amazing!”
  • “Serious changes happened during the process. I am sure most of the actions will be implemented. It is a very professional process – I have never seen anything like this before.”
